Empower Carol Muthiga-Oyekunle, also known as Lolita Lorenzo, is a Kenyan American artist whose stunning portraits radiate power and beauty. She conceived an “intergalactic Afrofuturistic time-traveling woman warrior” as an homage to courageous African women who craft textiles to support their families. The patterns and vibrant colours became part of her design aesthetic, and the weavers’ perseverance showed her that empowered women can change the world. This collection of portraits depicts strong women in a fashion editorial context, drawing on organic forms to create their fantastical “body armor couture.” Carol’s designs are inspired by subjects dear to her soul: Kenyan American culture, African fractals, Agĩkuyu cosmology, history, geometry, numerology and the magnificence of the cosmos. Her bold pieces symbolise women everywhere — those quintessential superheroes standing in their wisdom and power.
