Research shows that crows fashion twigs into spears and hooks to access food and use
road traffic to crack tough nuts. These intelligent birds also recognise individual humans and
act differently around people they are familiar with — sometimes even leaving gifts for those
who feed them. Endre Penovác captures the antics of these intelligent tricksters in his
gracefully abstract yet detailed portraits of corvids at play or monitoring the world for
delightful opportunities.
Watercolour is quite different from other painting mediums. As hard as one might try to
plan an outcome, the result is ever-changing, making each piece unique. Endre’s paintings
